Daiya Seto announces withdrawal from Japan Championships: "The fracture at the end of last year had a big impact. I'm not in good mental health" - he missed out on the national team for the first time in 13 years. Despite missing out on the eight consecutive medals at the World Championships, he says, "I'll come back stronger"
On the 22nd, male swimmer Daiya Seto (30) of TEAM DAIYA announced on social media that he would withdraw from the ongoing Japan Championships. He will not be selected for the World Championships (Singapore) this summer, and his chances of winning a medal at eight consecutive tournament have disappeared. This will be the first time in 13 years since the 2012 London Olympics that Seto will not be selected for the national team, excluding 2020, when there were no major international competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The fracture I sustained at the end of last year had a much bigger impact than I expected, and I was unable to prepare myself mentally, which is the most important aspect of the match. I agonized over it with my coach and trainer until the very last moment, but I have come to the decision to withdraw this time," he explained. He then vowed, "I am very sorry to everyone who was looking forward to the match, but I will reset both my body and mind and come back stronger so that I can aim for LA in 2028. I would appreciate your continued warm support."
Seto placed seventh in both the 200 and 400 meter individual medleys at his third Olympic Games in Paris. He revealed that he had broken a rib before the World Short Course Championships in December last year.
