Yuzuru Hanyu "thoughtfully conveyed my wish" to Noto Peninsula's recovery, the dance of hope; budget cuts put into venue lighting alone; "Please donate even a little"

Yuzuru Hanyu (29), the two-time Olympic champion in men's figure skating, appeared at a charity performance event to support the reconstruction of the Noto Peninsula held in Ishikawa Prefecture on the 15th. With the disaster-stricken areas in mind, he gave a passionate performance of "Haru yo, Koi" (Come Spring).

From the opening, Takahito Mura, Akiko Suzuki, Satoko Miyahara and others appeared, and they showed dynamic skating to the rhythm of the manly drums of the young Japanese drum team "Toranosuke", mainly consisting of teenagers active in Noto. Mura performed "Sansan", Suzuki performed "Hymne à l'amour" and Miyahara performed "Stabat Mater". There was also a performance by the Noto High School calligraphy club.

Hanyu performed "Haru yo, Koi" with great emotion as the finale, and sang Mrs. GREEN APPLE's "Que Sera Sera" as he danced. He said, "I think there are people who are watching, some who are suffering, some who are doing well, and people in all sorts of situations, but I skated with the hope that I could spread smiles among them, even if just a little." He did not use special lighting like in ice shows, but performed with only the venue lights. He revealed, "First of all, I thought about the situation without lights because I wanted to keep the budget as low as possible and donate as much money as possible, so my first goal was to make the scale as small as possible." He then nodded and said, "In the end, we ended up without lights as we reduced the production budget, but it looks different, and I'm glad that the people who watch it every day can feel a different sensation from usual. We ourselves felt different because it was a charity performance, and I think we skated with a clearer feeling for the people of the Noto region as we put into the program."

There was no on-site viewing, only live streaming. "By streaming, I could have skated in other areas if I had wanted to, and I think I could have done a lot of different things if I had wanted to. I wanted to skate as close as possible to people who have suffered, who are currently suffering, and who are worried about various things, and we skate while really feeling the power of the area and the atmosphere at the venue, so I skated while thinking about the importance of this atmosphere, and wanting to move the atmosphere a little from this place as a vibration and deliver it to everyone," he revealed his thoughts.

The performance was planned by Kanazawa Television with the hope of spreading smiles and energy in Ishikawa. The title, "Challenge," conveys the message of overcoming difficulties and moving forward. Hanyu agreed, saying, "I personally feel that there is a lot of meaning in skating in place. I'm sure there are certain feelings and performances that can only be done in that place," and this day was made possible. The performance will be streamed live on the video distribution service "Lemino," and proceeds will be donated to Ishikawa Prefecture.
