On the 27th, the Japan Sumo Association announced that its board of directors had approved the promotion of the following wrestlers to the lowest makushita rank:

Twardolj Bukhchoron (23), who won the individual championship at the National Student Championships in November last year and came in second at the All Japan Championships in December while at Nippon Sport Science University, will make his debut with Kasugano stable.

Bukhchoron, originally from Mongolia, was the number one wrestling high school in Japan at Nippon Sport Science University Kashiwa in Chiba. He started sumo at Nippon Sport Science University.

Yasusuke Gyotoku (22), a Takushoku University student who placed third in the individual competition at the National Sports Festival in October last year, will be making his debut in the sumo ring from Tamanoi stable.

Hidemasa Urayama (22), a Kindai University student who made it to the quarterfinals of the National Student Championships in November last year, will be making his sumo debut from the Otowayama stable.
