The 34 registered members of the Japanese women's volleyball team have been announced. The 34 members include 18-year-olds Misora Akimoto and Ai Kurogo. Coach Akbaash: "We aim to pursue excellence."
On the 10th, the Japan Volleyball Association announced the 34 registered members of the Japanese women's national team for 2025. Miku Akimoto (18) from Himeji, daughter of Ai Otomo, a member of the 2012 London Olympic medal team, was selected for the first time in two years. Nine members from last summer's Paris Olympic team, including Mayu Ishikawa (Nobara) and Koyomi Iwasaki (Ageo, Saitama), were selected, but Kotona Hayashi (Osaka M) was not.
In January, Ferhat Akbash was appointed as the first foreign coach of the Japanese women's national team. At the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, he is tasked with rebuilding the team from the Paris Olympics, where they were eliminated in the first round. "The 2025 Japanese women's national team will pursue excellence as a unified team of players, coaches, staff, and fans. Let's unite the strength of the entire team, overcome difficulties, and achieve our goals," he said. The team's first match will be the first week of the Volleyball Nations League (June 4-8, Ottawa, Canada).
