When the topic of newscasters' reference notebooks came up, former TBS employee Erina Masuda revealed that when she was struggling as a rookie, her senior announcer Shinichiro Azumi gave her advice and showed her the notebook that Azumi had been keeping since he was a rookie.

He said that the book contained phrases that he thought were great in the commentary of other newscasters, as well as the meanings of words that he had never heard before. "I could tell that he had really studied the material, and that's why he has been able to achieve such results," he said, reflecting on the experience.
