Noriko Sakai: The 38th anniversary live concert on February 5th is the culmination of a "tumultuous year": "One way to give back is to keep moving forward"

Singer and actress Noriko Sakai (53) will hold a live concert to celebrate her 38th debut anniversary, "Noriko Sakai Carpe Diem," at the live house "SHIBUYA PLEASURE PLEASURE" in Shibuya, Tokyo, on February 5. In an interview with DailySports recently, she spoke about her enthusiasm for the concert, which will be the culmination of her "tumultuous year."

The concert will be directed by world-famous belly dancer Nakamura India. Sakai emphasized, "This time, it's a bit like a story... It incorporates various worldviews, and it's also the day of my debut, so it's a show that follows that path and allows you to enjoy what I want to express."

Last year, a strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Japanese seismic scale struck the Noto Peninsula on New Year's Day. As a regular radio personality in Ishikawa Prefecture and close friends with the locals, it came as a big shock to him. He also appeared at a memorial event for the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, held in Kobe in January. As a result of this, he visited Kesennuma, Miyagi, an area affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, in March, making it a year in which he was constantly exposed to disasters and recovery.

On the other hand, in July, she held a concert in Hong Kong, which had been postponed for two years due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The concert, which was scheduled for one day, was so popular that an additional performance was quickly scheduled. The proceeds from the concert, as well as the crowdfunding funds raised by fans at the concert, were donated to the disaster-stricken areas of Noto. "There have been natural disasters before, but I think this year was particularly eventful. As destruction and regeneration were repeated, everyone was connected by things that money can't buy, things that can't be seen, things like the heart, and we supported each other. There were many difficult times, but the world over overcame the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the end, everyone's warm feelings remained... There were many events like that around me," she said, reflecting on the past.

The 38th anniversary was reached through various connections and with the help of many people. "In the end, I think that not stopping is a way to give back," he said. To the fans who attended, he sent a message saying, "Thank you for always supporting us, and seeing you all happy is the joy of the performers and staff, so I hope you enjoy it."
