On the 22nd, Foreman's family announced on social media that former WBA, WBC, and IBF heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman had passed away. He was 76 years old.

As an amateur, Foreman won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, making his professional debut the following year. In 1973, he challenged Joe Frazier, the unified WBA and WBC world heavyweight champion, and won by TKO in the second round to take the title. In 1974, he was defeated by former champion Muhammad Ali, his first loss in his 41st fight. Ali, who appeared to be in decline at the time, won the title in what was called the "Miracle of Kinshasa."

He retired at the age of 28, but returned to the ring after a 10-year absence at the age of 38. In 1994, at the age of 45 years and 9 months, he challenged WBA and IBF champion Moorer and won by KO. It was his first comeback in over 20 years since his loss to Ali.

"We are heartbroken. It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. passed away peacefully on March 21st, surrounded by his loved ones. A loving father and proud grandfather and great-grandfather, he lived a life of unwavering faith, humility and purpose. A humanitarian and two-time World Heavyweight Champion, he was a force for good, a man of discipline and principle, a protector of his legacy, who continued to fight to defend his honor for his family and was deeply respected," the statement on social media posted with a family photo read.
